Food security issues can only be reduced with a good “Food Security” protocol.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), food security exists when…
“…all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life”
The concept was born in the 1970s and, over time, different socio-cultural terms and economic variables have been added to its definition.
Food security is not only associated with not consuming foods that are harmful to our health, but also includes the necessary factors to lead an active and healthy life.
A fundamental part of the concept of Food Security is also being able to control the factors that can cause food insecurity.
One of the entities that implements and offers measures for Food Security is the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, which proposes a series of very interesting principles:
- Attention to Food Security. This refers to offering guarantees so that the objectives related to food security are integrated into the strategies of countries.
- Promotion of sustainable agricultural and rural growth. The principle to promote environmentally and socially sustainable development, as the basis for enhancing economic growth.
- Attention to the root causes of food insecurity. Promotion of productivity, access to resources, etc.
- Monitoring cross-cutting issues. Everything related to national and international policies and issues that affect the execution of food security protocols.
- Encourage stakeholder participation. This will facilitate consensus on issues related to food security.
Food Security Controls
Food Security has become the object of legislation, guaranteeing a high level of consumer health protection in relation to food in certain areas.
Food Security is accompanied by the concept of Food Hygiene. This term defines the set of standards required to be met to ensure that food is safe.
Food Security will minimise the risk of cross-contamination and food poisoning, in addition to facilitating safe access to sufficient quantities of food.
A project that calls for a fight – for the challenge to improve the quality of life of people around the world.
